Caterpillar Diary

Hello Children!

It has been a very exciting morning at Mrs Mangat's house. The children received a special parcel from the post man. When the children opened the box they were so excited to find some caterpillars inside.

We have been reading the instructions on how to look after the caterpillars. We will keep a diary of how the caterpillars grow into beautiful butterflies.

Have fun watching them! smiley

We received all the resources we need for the caterpillars to grow.

If you would like to have your own set of caterpillars visit this site and you can order them to be delivered to your house.

I ordered the 3-5 caterpillar garden. Enjoy.

Day 1- Here are the small caterpillars. They will eat the food at the bottom and grow bigger and bigger before becoming Chrysalides (cacoons).

Day 2 and 3. The Caterpillars have been wriggling around the pot and eating their food. they have already grown.

Day 4 and 5. The Caterpillars have all grown. They are crawling up to the top of the pot and starting to stick to the lid. Can you see the caterpillars spike? Have a go at drawing the caterpillars.

Hello children!
The caterpillars are growing well and continue to grow. They are becoming very messy as they grow.
Why don’t you have a go at making a caterpillar using recycled  boxes, bottles, egg boxes or tissue roll. Please send us some photos of your creations!

Day 10 and 11- over the past 2 days all the caterpillars have made their cacoons. Can’t wait to see them turn into beautiful butterflies.

Day 12- we have moved them safely into the net. They sometimes have a little wriggle inside their cacoons. What do you think the butterflies will look like?

Day 13, 14 and 15- The Caccons have been growing which means the caterpillars are slowly forming into butterflies. Sometimes they have a little wriggle inside.  We are so excited to see the butterflies!
Day 16- We have a butterfly! This morning a butterfly popped out of the caccon! It was so exciting. It has beautiful patterns all over its wings. Have a go at making a butterfly using any resources you have at home. You can use paint, colours, playdough, lego and any recycled boxes or bottles you may have.

Day 17- Another Butterfly has come out of its cacoon. We have put some orange at the bottom of the net for them to eat. They have started to fly around the net.
