Well, this is rather strange, isn’t it? I never thought that I would be communicating with you, or anybody else, in this way! Two months ago if anyone would have asked me what social distancing was, or that would be in lockdown, I would think they were mad and wouldn’t believe them! However, here we are, and here I am writing to you instead of seeing your smiley, friendly faces!
We might be feeling anxious, or even upset during this time, and it is ok to have these emotions; however, remember to let them go and focus on the positives. I heard a simple quote on a podcast (I’ve been listening to lots of podcasts recently) and the speaker said, ‘’If you’re not positive, what’s the alternative?’’ So it is really important that you stay positive and take advantage to do the things you have always wanted to do; for example, learn how to ride a bike, or practice your creative writing skills through stories/poems.
Shall I tell you what I’ve been doing that has helped me? Well, as you already know, I really enjoy meditating. I find that it calms my busy mind, helps me to focus and stay in the present moment. Do you remember when we did mindfulness breathing? It was called, ’Mindfulness Monkey for kids’ on Youtube. They have a range of different practices that are age-appropriate for you to try. Why don’t you give it a go? I know that many of you really enjoyed it, especially at the end of a tiring day.
Have you noticed how wonderful the weather has been recently? I don’t know about you, but whenever I see the sun shining, it makes me feel so warm and happy inside. I’ve been using my hour of exercise to go for long walks in my local area and I’ve discovered a new part that I never knew existed (I have only been living here for 15 years!). There is a path that looks like a running track which is surrounded by fields! It is breath-taking and I often walk around it and immerse myself in the beautiful nature. When I’m feeling a little more energetic, I go for a 14 minute run around the track. You are probably wondering, why the specific time? Well did you know that Mo Farah -the Olympic Gold Medallist- can run 5 kilometres in under 14 minutes! Unfortunately, I have a got a long way to go to beat his record time! My personal best is 2.3km - so I won’t be entering the Olympics anytime soon! Why don’t you try jogging? I find running in the morning to be the best time as it improves my productivity (and it gets me out of bed before 8!)
Another activity I have been doing is yoga. I’ve always been interested in learning yoga and becoming more flexible and I like the holistic approach to life yoga offers. I have been watching different inspirational yoga videos, then I like to challenge myself to remember the names of the different stretches and to create my own mini yoga routine. What hobbies and interests do you have? Use this time to get better at them! Look at Mrs Bhayani’s sketching on her home page- it looks professional!
Of course, like myself, you have to keep up with your studies. I have been updating the History, Geography and Music for next year and been having endless conversations with Miss Idris about the English writing. Miss Idris and I do like to have lengthy discussions as we are both very passionate about English! I hope you have also been completing the tasks we have set for you; however, make some time in the day to learn a new skill and make sure you are active for at least 20 minutes a day. Please try and avoid computer games, and if you are using them, limit yourself to no more than 30 minutes a day. Read a book instead in the sunshine or engage your brain with other non-screen activities. If you are struggling for ideas, have a look at our webpage, we have put lots of ideas on there for you to try.
I would love to hear what you’ve been up to. Thank you to Aamir, Zakir and Malika all of which have kept me entertained with their daily diary entries and work they have been doing. I hope they have inspired you to write a diary and try new things. If you would like to share what you have been doing, send them via the Parentapp where I will receive your work.
Stay safe, stay in contact but most importantly: KEEP LEARNING!
Miss Anaxagorou :)
