School Improvement

  1. To evaluate achievement outcomes for end of key stage performance
  2. To evaluate rates of progress and attainment by all pupils, including any underachieving groups
  3. To review the impact of actions taken by the schools to improve achievement
  4. To agree performance targets for pupils at the end of key stages that can be recommended to the full governing body
  5. To identify and celebrate pupil achievements
  6. To agree improvement priorities in relation to pupil achievement
  7. To review the performance of the school against the achievement criteria outlined in the OfSTED evaluation schedule
  8. To review the school’s evidence about the quality of teaching and learning
  9. To consider stakeholders’ views about the quality of teaching and learning
  10. To evaluate the extent of pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development
  11. To consider issues in relation to teacher performance management
  12. To review the effectiveness of the school’s professional development programme and the impact it is having on the quality of teaching and learning

Behaviour and safety

  1. To ensure the health, safety and well-being of staff and pupils
  2. To evaluate pupils’ attitudes to learning and conduct in lessons and around the school
  3. To evaluate pupils’ behaviour, how well it is managed  and the effectiveness of the school’s actions to improve it
  4. To undertake the governing body’s responsibilities in relation to safeguarding
  5. To review data on exclusions and the impact of the school’s work to follow up and support excluded pupils
  6. To evaluate pupils’ attendance and punctuality at school and in lessons and the impact of the school’s actions to improve attendance
  7. To review stakeholders views on behaviour and safety
  8. To agree improvement priorities in relation to behaviour and safety
  9. To review the performance of the school against the behaviour and safety criteria outlined in the OfSTED evaluation schedule

Leadership and Management

  1. To ensure governors vision for excellence is relentlessly pursued
  2. To evaluate how  rigorously  the  school is implementing improvement plans
  3. To establish the consistent application of policies and procedures
  4. To evaluate the curriculum ensuring it is balanced, broadly based, meets the needs of all pupils and complies with statutory requirements
  5. To monitor and evaluate the spending plans from the budget allocated to the school to achieve value for money
  6. To review staff pay and conditions
  7. To agree procedures for staff conduct and discipline
  8. To recommend an appropriate staffing structure to the full governing body for approval
  9. To recruit, select and appoint staff
  10. To undertake headteacher appraisal
  11. To provide an interface between the governing body, the school and parents as well as other organisations or bodies for matters outside of the Headteacher’s normal daily operations.
  12. To promote the school and its activities.
