Next week (week commencing 26.06.17) is "School Sports week" at Spinney Hill Primary School - Your child has been given the challenge to complete 60 minutes of physical activity every single day. You can help them with this in a number of ways e.g. walking to school every day, going to the park after school and signing up for a local sports team or fitness club. It is proven that regular physical activity can significantly boost children's self-esteem and give them the opportunity to stay fit and healthy. Please assist in any way you can.

Spinney Hill bow out after 16 goal thriller!

"WOW! Where do we start with that game?" were Mr Smith's words as Spinney Hill left the field following defeat on penalties in the first round of the schools FA cup. The team had traveled to Willowbrook Primary to play the fixture on a sunny but cold Wednesday afternoon.

The game started slowly with both teams measuring up each others style of play and at the 7 minute mark it was still 0-0. Then the fun started. Willowbrook scored with a good solo run and finish. They then had another chance which Tanvir, in the Spinney Hill goal saved well. The goal sparked Spinney Hill into life and they scored with an excellent counter-attack, finished off by the skillful Arsh. Then came the goal of the game. After great dribbling and solo wing play from Salmaan down the left hand side he managed to dig out a pinpoint cross. This was attacked by Arqam who had made a great run into the box to head home from 8 yards out. 2-1 to Spinney Hill. Willowbrook then had a period where they looked stunned and Spinney Hill led at half-time 4-2. The second Willowbrook goal a stunning diving header.

The second half started well for Spinney Hill with a fifth goal shortly after the break but then game a chaotic collapse. Willowbrook scored 5 goals without reply thus meaning they led the game 7-5. Spinney were shell-shocked with their backs against the wall and with the goals flying in they needed calmness and character to turn it around. All the players stepped up! Tanvir organised his defense, Omkar, Nikolas and Dadavalli were strong in the tackle and passed the ball well, Salmaan, Arsh, Arqam and Faheem linked up with excellent combinations and deadly counter-attacks the team were fighting back! A sixth goal for Spinney Hill meant they were back in the game. 7-6.

In the final 90 seconds even more chaos ensued with Spinney Hill equalising with a scrappy goal but such a vital one. 7-7. Then with a minute left Willowbrook sprinted up the other end and went 8-7 up. Spinney Hill had one more chance could they fight back again? Could they find the belief and spirit to do it again? The answer was yes. In the dying seconds they scored and the final whistle blew 8-8!!

As the game was a knockout match it went into penalties. Never a nice way to settle a match but the only fair way to determine who progressed to the next round. Willowbrook won 3-1 with their goalkeeper the hero with 3 saves!

Ultimately, the game wasn't about winning as it was such a great advert for attacking football, excitement and entertainment. The game was played in a wonderful spirit and there was fantastic sportsmanship on show from both sets of players - a real credit to both schools.

Spinney Hill would like to thank Willowbrook for hosting the game and we hope they advanced into the latter rounds of the competition. Surely there won't be any more 16 goal thrillers! will there?

Final score: 3-1 (pens) Willowbrook go through

The Premier League Trophy comes to Spinney Hill

On Friday 9th December Spinney Hill were lucky enough to have a visit from a very special visitor - THE PREMIER LEAGUE TROPHY!!!

Thanks to our partnership with LCFC we were given this opportunity and every class in the school got the chance to have their photographs taken with this prestigious trophy. Below are some photographs from the morning...

Two super trips to LCFC training ground and The King Power Stadium!

Our year 6's and some year 5's got the opportunity to visit the home of the PREMIER LEAGUE CHAMPIONS this week! Firstly, a team of boys and girls took part in a football competition in the dome at the LCFC training ground. This was a great event and the boys and girls LOVED IT!

Secondly, we took 20 excited children and 3 very excited adults to The KP Stadium to take part in workshops around stopping racism. The event was put on by "Show racism the red card" in partnership with LCFC. The children shared stories and took part in activities around the topic of racism and bullying - and even got to meet Leicester City star Ben Chilwell!

Below are some pictures from these two very exciting days...

Perfect P.E kits!

To be "PERFECT P.E PUPIL" your child needs the correct P.E kit. Please make sure they have a white t-shirt, dark shorts or joggers and trainers. When the weather gets cold they need a jumper, hoodie or zip-up jacket. Below are two superstars in their "PERFECT P.E KITS"
